How it all began.....

In 1918, Charlie and Addie Underwood settled on the property of Willow Oak. In the fertile valley created by Robinson Branch, fields were farmed and the Underwoods and their children lived off of the land throughout the toughest economic time of our nation's history. In 1958, Thomas (son of Charlie and Addie) and Helen Underwood purchased the property from his brother and sisters and continued to farm the fertile valley of Willow Oak. This is where they raised their family and lived for the next 60 years.

On the property, Thomas built a spring-fed pond that was stocked with all kinds of fish, including large-mouth bass. It was here that his grandson, Professional Bass Angler Tim Horton, began to fall in love with the outdoors and the properties of Willow Oak.

Over the years, Tim and his wife Kim found that their most enjoyable moments were spent on the property. Whether it was in a tree stand, walking the woods, planting food and habitat for wildlife, checking trail cam pictures, fishing the waters of Willow Oak with their kids, or just  relaxing in the cabin and enjoying the best view in Northwest Alabama, this is home. Tim and Kim wanted to share the experience of the valley and opened Willow Oak Lodge.

Willow Oak is a preserve located in the northwest corner of Alabama, in the foothills of the Appalachians. The terrain is diverse with open fields, rolling hardwoods, pine thickets, and an abundance of creeks and ponds. For the past ten years, the property has been developed and managed specifically for wildlife habitat. With this diversity flourishing in over 1000 acres, the property is a place where one might experience the heart-racing moment of having an encounter with the buck of a lifetime, hearing the woods shake from a morning gobbler, or enjoying the sunset as a whippoorwill signals the end of the day. Willow Oak is not just about hunting or fishing. It is a popular destination/venue for weddings, corporate events, family reunions, etc. Whether you want to bring your family to rest and relax in the sanctuary of nature, or return home with the story of a hunt of a lifetime, your visit to Willow Oak will be exactly as you desire.
